Card #1 · Level 2
Repair After a Small Rupture
This card is for small hurts that were never fully repaired – eye rolls, sharp tones, moments of distance.
Choose one recent moment that felt off between you (not a huge fight, just a wobble).
Take turns speaking using these prompts:
“The moment that stuck with me was…”
“What I made it mean was…”
“What I was actually feeling underneath was…”
“What I wish I had said or done instead is…”
The listening partner reflects back what they heard and can say:
“Thank you for telling me. I see how that mattered.”
If it feels right, each of you offers a short apology or acknowledgement, such as:
“I’m sorry my words landed that way. It makes sense that it hurt.”
Debrief prompts
- What did I learn about how my partner interpreted that moment?
- Was it hard to admit what I was really feeling underneath?
- Did I notice any defensiveness in myself?
- How did it feel to name a small rupture instead of ignoring it?
- What is one tiny “repair move” I can practice next time?
